Consumer Alerts
11.05.07We have received reports from credit union members of another recent string of fraudulent emails being circulated that is supposedly from CUNA (Credit Union National Association). The Credit Union National Association is the trade association for credit unions in the US. CUNA DOES NOT maintain any type of member financial information. These emails are designed to fraudulently obtain member credit card and other financial information.
Below is a sample of what is being circulated. If you received this type of email, do not respond. Delete it.
Be on the guard. No credit union, financial institution or other responsible organization would ever ask you for personal financial information in an unsolicited email. If you ever receive such an email from an organization claiming to be affiliated with your Credit Union, please check with us before providing any information requested in the email.
Here is another fraudulent email that’s being circulated.
IMPORTANT ALERT TO OUR CARDHOLDERS
A fraudulent email was recently distributed to certain cardholders who have participated in Verified for Visa. It claims to have come from Visa and stated that the cardholder was automatically enrolled in Verified by Visa. In addition, it stated that the cardholder’s Visa card may be temporarily disabled if they failed to update their Visa card. The email was a phishing scam and DID NOT come from Visa. Phishing is a form of fraud that attempts to trick the cardholder into revealing personal information, such as their credit or debit account numbers, checking account information, social security number, or banking account passwords through fake websites or in a reply email.
Remember -- NW Priority Credit Union will NEVER ask cardholders to divulge account information or password via email (nor Visa). If you receive such emails, DO NOT reply to the email nor should you contact the website referenced in the email. You can report the scam email to Visa by sending an email to phishing@visa.com.
Below is a sample of that email scam:
